About Us
- About Calmshell
Built Because the System Wasn't Built for Everyone
Calmshell exists because too many people sat in therapy rooms and felt unseen. Clinically supported, perhaps. But not truly understood. We set out to change that starting with the belief that culture, language, and lived experience aren’t details a good therapist works around. They’re the foundation everything else is built on.
Our Mission
To improve access to culturally responsive mental health care making it timely, affordable, and genuinely meaningful for people whose identities, backgrounds, and experiences have long been underserved by the mental health system.
Our Vision
A future where everyone regardless of culture, language, religion, immigration status, or lived experience can access mental health care that respects who they are and understands where they’ve come from.
- OUR VALUES
What We Stand For
Compassion
People first. Always. Every feature, every decision, every interaction starts here.
Accessibility
Care that requires a certain income, a certain postcode, or a certain kind of English isn't truly accessible. We're working to change that.
Equity
Equal access isn't enough. Equitable access means recognizing that different people need different things to receive the same quality of care.
Innovation
Technology should close gaps in care, not create new ones. We build tools that serve people, not the other way around.
Community
Healing is relational. Calmshell isn't just a platform it's a network of people, practitioners, and communities committed to collective wellbeing.
Confidentiality
What happens on Calmshell stays on Calmshell. End-to-end encryption, PHIPA and PIPEDA compliance, and strict access controls protect every user.
Respect
No discrimination. No judgment. Full stop. Every person on this platform client or provider is treated with dignity.
Evidence-Based Care
Culturally responsive doesn't mean clinically vague. Every approach on Calmshell is grounded in research and professional standards.
- OUR STORY
Why Calmshell Exists
Founder Message:
My name is Timothy Sserubiri. I hold a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology, and for over a decade I worked across cultures, languages, and deeply personal journeys in mental health practice and advocacy.
What I kept seeing was this: people receiving technically competent care from clinicians who genuinely meant well and still leaving sessions feeling unseen. Not because their therapist wasn’t skilled. Because the care didn’t account for who they actually were.
The immigrant navigating grief that has no clean name. The young person caught between two cultural worlds with no map for either. The newcomer explaining their background from scratch before they could even begin talking about their actual pain. The elder whose healing traditions had no place in a clinical model imported from elsewhere.
Being heard and being understood are two entirely different things. The mental health system was built largely for a particular kind of patient. Calmshell was built for everyone else.
That’s the short version of why this platform exists. The longer version is still being written by every person who finds support here that they couldn’t find anywhere else.
